«GREEN DIALOGUE ΙΙ»
REFORESTATION WITH SKAI CHANNEL AND THE THESSALONIKI PEFKON DISTRICT
Over a thousand people responded with enthusiasm to the 50th TIFF ‘green invitation’ on Sunday November 15. Fifty thousand saplings were planted in an area of thirty thousand square metres (30 ha²) in the Alatiera and Petra Vassilaki areas of the Pefkon District.
An initiative of Green Dialogue II, a programme launched last year during the 49th TIFF to promote an immediate impact on the public on environmental and ecological issues, this TIFF initiative was carried out in collaboration with the TV and Radio SKAI Channel and the Thessaloniki Pefkon District.
TIFF President, Georges Corraface, was present at the event: “It is really moving to see all these people come here to give back to the environment and to our planet what is their due. It makes one happy to visualize the beautiful forest that will spring up here in a few years.” He then symbolically planted a tree together with TIFF Director, Despina Mouzaki who also spoke on the occasion. “This initiative fills us with joy. It proves once again that the Festival is not only theory, it is also practice.” She then added: “Our aim is to improve the environment, to prepare the ground for a better future. I am sure that in a few years this location will be covered in beautiful green trees.”
The Mayor of the Pefkon District, Stellios Symeonidis, expressed his enthusiasm: “Planting trees means planting life for the future, for our children. This is an extremely important initiative. On our side, we commit ourselves to fencing in and protecting the entire area.”
