GOLDEN ALEXANDER AWARD TO JANE BIRKIN
Internationally renowned artist Jane Birkin was honored with the Golden Alexander award on Sunday, November 15, at the packed Olympion Theater in the framework of TIFF.
«What can anyone say about Jane Birkin? Suffice to say that she is beautiful in every sense of the word. She is beautiful, because she is active in filmmaking and music, she has been the muse of many a distinguished director and also a symbol of an entire generation and of a cultural revolution. She is a woman who knows how to play with different stereotypes, how to reinvent herself, and she can do this because she is honest and disarmingly generous”, said TIFF’s president Georges Corraface, presenting the Golden Alexander to Jane Birkin.
In her acceptance speech, the fascinating actress and performer thanked the Festival and underlined that she had to wait for 62 yeas to receive such an honor. “I owe a big ‘thank you’ to many supportive people, who helped me in my career, as well as to director Jacques Rivette who, despite being 83 years old, possesses the inspiration of a young man. Even the fact that I was able to show up today and be with you, I owe it to the generosity and kindness of TIFF’s people, who came to my aid after I had lost my luggage at the airport», Birkin said.
Following the award ceremony, Jacques Rivette’s film 36 Views from the Pic Saint-Loup starring Jane Birkin was screened in the framework of TIFF’s Special Screenings Session.
