50th TIFF: Independence Days: Acte Vide, Still Gramophone, Gone (x3) Concert

INDEPENDENCE DAYS
ACTE VIDE, STILL GRAMOPHONE, GONE (x3) CONCERT

A unique and alternative music night was offered to the audience of Thessaloniki on Wednesday, November 18, at sp!timou venue in the framework of the 50th TIFF. The music event organised by TIFF’s Independence Days section and Muzine magazine presented three local music bands: Acte Vide, Still Gramophone and Gone (x3).

First, Acte Vide –aka Giannis Kotsonis and Danai Stefanou- took the stage to perform an experimental improvisation aided by a laptop and available props. Their aim was to “make a lot of noise,” as they explained; commenting on the event they talked of an “interesting incentive, which brings together a mixed audience, which in itself is most interesting.”

Next, it was Still Gramophone’s turn to perfom, a music band who started as a bedroom project by Ilias Stamboulis. Their songs, combining creative sampling with instrumental orchestration drew a warm applause by the audience. The band released their eponymous debut album in September by cliche records. Ilias Stamboulis expressed his joy for Still Gramophone’s participation in such an event: “There are always creative things happening in the framework of Thessaloniki’s Film Festival, and it is really positive that apart from the cinema music also steps in.”

The concert was concluded by Michalis Papoulakos’s music project Gone (3). The project consists of a hip hop aesthetics performance, based on samples of previous recordings combined with live instrumental sound in a new structural form. Influenced by old jazz appropriately combining it with hip hop music, Michalis Papoulakos pointed out regarding the event: “It is a first class opportunity for city artists to show their work at venues through these events organised in the framework of Thessaloniki’s International Film Festival.”
