10th TDF: LINE-UP & PRACTICAL INFO

10th THESSALONIKI DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL
Images of the 21st Century

March 7 – 16, 2008

The 10th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival - Images of the 21st Century, part of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, is celebrating its tenth anniversary by presenting approximately 160 films by directors from all over the world, as well as a full parallel events program.

A record number of 35.000 viewers and 450 guests attended last year’s Festival, demonstrating the increasing interest of the public and industry professionals in documentaries and the TDF’s success in attracting them. There is also substantial audience participation in the open discussions organized every year, dealing with a variety of issues explored by the Festival.

OPENING FILM

The Greek documentary My Life and Times – Michael Cacoyannis (2008), directed by Lydia Carras, will be screened during the Opening Ceremony of the 10th TDF on the 7th of March at 20.30 in the Olympion Theatre. The film offers an insightful look into the world-acclaimed, Oscar-nominated director’s career through rare footage from rehearsals, interviews with Cacoyannis himself, as well as testimonies from his collaborators over the years, such as Charlotte Rampling, Vincent Cassel and cinematographer Walter Lassaly, Academy award winner for Electra.

FIPRESCI JURY

An international FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) jury will hand out a FIPRESCI award to a Greek documentary and a FIPRESCI award to a foreign documentary.

The five-member Fipresci Jury is composed of:

Michel Euvrard, President (Canada)

Caroline Buck (Germany)

Matti Ramo (Finland)

Alex Leo Serban (Romania)
