Macedonian Museum of Modern Art
“Melina Travels the World” could have been an alternative title for the exhibition organized by the 43rd Thessaloniki International Film Festival together with The Macedonian Museum of Modern Art which takes place from November 6th to the 28th.
Roughly two hundred posters from films in which Melina Merkouri starred will be on exhibit for the first time in Greece, giving the Greek public the unique opportunity to enjoy the female legend of Greek cinema as it has never seen her before – and this is because all the posters in the exhibition come from foreign countries and artists who have made their mark in the history of engraving.
Posters from Mexico, Japan, Spain, Argentina, Poland, Germany, France, Belgium, Australia, Romania, Italy, as designed by Vakirdzis, Olivetti, Jano, Macii, Nistri, Yves Thos, Deseta, Nano, Biffignandi, Freidenreich, Atelier Degen among others, bring an entirely new image of Melina Merkouri to light, giving a new dimension to the heroines portrayed by the biggest star of Greek cinema and once more underlining her international charm and brilliance. This valuable material is drawn from the private collection of George Pilihos who has generously offered it for this exhibition. He reveals, among all the rest, the adventurous story behind its creation.
