From the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival to the Oscars®

It is with great pleasure that the Thessaloniki Film Festival announces that the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, held every March for twenty years in Thessaloniki, Greece, paves the way to the Oscars® for the film that wins TDF’s Golden Alexander Best Documentary – International Competition award.

More specifically, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences established a Documentary Feature Qualifying Festival List that comprises of 28 leading festivals around the world, including the TDF. The documentary feature films that win a qualifying award at the selected festivals will automatically become eligible for Oscar consideration in the Documentary Feature category.  

Henceforth thus, the film that wins TDF’s most important prize, the Golden Alexander Best Documentary-International Competition section award, will automatically be eligible to submit for Oscar consideration (Documentary Feature category).

The Documentary Feature Qualifying Festival List of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences includes, inter alia, festivals such as Berlinale, Festival de Cannes, IDFA, HOT DOCS, Sheffield and Visions du Reel.
