59th THESSALONIKI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL [1-11/11/2018] || 1-11/11/2018
Foivos Delivorias shows us around at TIFF Agora
A special tour for journalists at the sites and the individual sections of Agora 59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival took place on Friday, November 9, 2018, at Warehouse C’ - Agora headquarters-, with the help of the popular singer-songwriter and film devotee Foivos Delivorias, the first ambassador of this event. The head of Agora Yianna Sarri, was with him.
"I'm a film maniac, I watch three films a day. So when TIFF's artistic director Orestis Andreadakis and the vice president Achilleas Kyriakidis talked to me about Agora and how its very important work could be further stimulated, I accepted at once. Besides, this process has been the starting point of so many films and filmmakers, among which Yorgos Lanthimos, who in 2008 had presented a trailer of his film Dogtooth in Agora Works in Progress. Agora is TIFF”s most creative section, although people don't know it", Foivos Delivorias said.
As to his role as Agora ambassador, he noted: “TIFF was looking for someone with no interests, so to speak, in cinema. Someone who could talk with the film project crews and whoever might wish to make a foreign film in Greece. My role is to advocate and promote the important processes in TIFF’s Agora, whose fruit is tomorrow’s cinema. I work as a liaison between film professionals and TIFF’s guests, journalists and of course the audience. In Agora, professionals can discover film scripts not yet turned into films. The way films are born is magical and as a cinephile I find it exciting to be inside the Agora ‘cauldron’, where new films are being ‘cooked’”.
Foivos Delivorias showed the journalists around at the Crossroads Co-production Forum hall where industry professionals’ meetings take place, the Film Market where Agora accredited guests can watch films from the digital library, as well as the main hall in Warehouse C’, where meetings take place as part of Works in Progress.
On her part, Yianna Sarri made mention to Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s collaboration with Locarno Film Festival, as part of Thessaloniki Locarno Industry Academy. “Locarno Industry Academy International is a training program created to help young and upcoming professionals of the cinema industry broaden their experience and networking in the fields of international sales, marketing, distribution, presentation and programming”, she said.
TIFF’s Agora section, supported by Creative Europe-MEDIA, is open until Saturday November 10, 2018, at Warehouse C’ (Port). This year it hosts 15 film projects in the 14th Crossroads Co-production Forum, 12 films in Agora Works in Progress, and more than 220 films from all over the world in Agora Film Market. Agora awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 9.
