Carte Blanche Lambis Haralambidis: screening of the film Alleluia by Fabrice du Welz
On Thursday November 11, at the movie theater Makedonikon, the screening of the film Alleluia by Fabrice du Welz took place, within the framework of the carte blanche given by the Festival of Thessaloniki to the renowned editor Lambis Haralambidis, one of the distinguished guests of the 62nd TIFF’s tribute “In the Cut: Editing and its Secrets”. Lambis Haralambidis attended the screening, briefly explaining to the audience the reasons behind his carte blanche choice.
“The movie is a follow-up to the masterclass I delivered this morning on character-driven editing. It is not an easy-to-watch film, it’s a little more extreme, a chance to take a look at some extreme characters. It is a remake of an American film, called The Honeymoon Killers (1970) by Leonard Castle, based on true story that occurred in New York, in 1912. The movie builds a really strong connection to the characters that are filmed in a unique and special way. I chose it because I consider it fresh and vibrant, while Du Welz dares to shoot some scenes that would have had this place tore down to pieces in the past. This way, the director wants to show the truth of the story he unfolds, the deeper truth of things. I also chose it because I firmly believe that cinema is in need of a new language. Most things have already been said and it is urgent that they are retold in a different way. Moreover, the movie is endowed with an ambiance of lust, I would say. I was completely taken aback by the movie’s atmosphere”, confessed Lambis Haralambidis, welcoming the audience to the carte blanche screening.
