YORGOS PAPAGEORGIOU & POLKAR LIVE

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2
21:30
Mylos

Yorgos Papageorgiou and Polkar bring on strass, trombones, cheesy love songs, full-blown onehit-wonders, desperate “flower girls,” romantic ukuleles, extravagant choruses, and unbearable love stories. With their music often tagged as “Balkan feast-like,” Polkar set off as the band of actor, director, and musician Yorgos Papageorgiou from Thessaloniki, with musician Yiannis Kyratsos by his side. They got their name after a trip to Serbia in 2013 – after all, “polkar” is the Slavic word for a “drunken dancer who sings sloppy.” The band was formed ten years ago in Thessaloniki, their sound drawing on the heavy Balkan vibes and the golden years in 90s Thessaloniki, which they spent jamming in makeshift studios in the area of Ano Ladadika. On this special night, in one of the most legendary music scenes of the city, they will also perform their new songs; they will also sing some songs they love. You see, they missed those nights. In the evening, the unforgettable will turn into a right.
