The 20^th anniversary edition of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival presents approximately 180 feature and 48 short documentary films by directors from all over the world, as well as a parallel events program.

53 feature and 25 short Greek documentaries will be screened during the 20^th anniversary edition of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. Two of these films participate in the event’s International Competition section, 23 are included in the various International Program sections and 53 in the Greek Panorama.

The International Competition section of the 20^th anniversary edition of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (2-11/3/2018) discovers the boldest new voices of contemporary documentary filmmaking. This year the festival selects the 10 IC films with George Perec’s famous novel Life a User’s Manual as guiding compass. 

One of the major turning points in 20^th-century history, 1968 was the year that became a synonym of rebellion and struggle for change, spreading throughout the globe and giving inspiration and hope. The year’s key-moments were the uprising that took place in May 1968 in Paris, as well as the Prague Spring, but 1968 was more than that. Half a century later, the 20^th anniversary edition of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival revisits that critical year and invites us to reevaluate the legacy of 1968 in the tribute “’68 Beyond ’68”. 

The 20th anniversary edition of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival hosts a special tribute to the legendary auteur Agnès Varda, with 10 of her most compelling documentaries, including her latest work Faces Places that will be the opening film of the 20th TDF.
