OLIVER STONE HONORARY CEREMONY
Oliver Stone, the acclaimed American director, was honored with the Golden Alexander at a ceremony held on Wednesday November 19th, at the Olympion theatre.
TIFF director Despina Mouzaki welcomed the filmmaker describing him as a director who dares to accuse the system for its weaknesses without considering the risk. ‘With his film W., Oliver Stone proves one more time that cinema can present new ideas and promote an alternative way of thought in an attempt to draw people’s attention to society’s problems. Oliver Stone may be working for more than 20 years as a filmmaker but he seems to have kept alive his force and passion behind the camera’, she pointed out, while
TIFF president Georges Corraface described Oliver Stone as a natural born storyteller.
Oliver Stone thanked TIFF and added: ‘We are at an awkward point in history where Bush compares himself with Alexander the Great. Many people have underestimated him and that’s where his success lies. Bush is a kind of an American archetype like John Wayne and someday the Bush phenomenon will be back on the news’.
