A Commemorative plaque in recognition of his body of work was given to Constantine Giannaris at a ceremony which took place on Thursday, November 10, at the Olympion Cinema. The ceremony was part of the 52nd Thessaloniki International Film Festival, in the presence of the Festival Director, Dimitri Eipides. This year’s festival is holding a comprehensive Tribute to the work of the distinguished Greek director, who is also a member of the International Competition Jury.
Mr. Eipides expressed his pleasure in the fact that the Festival is honouring “a director who has become legendary in Greek cinema, and is a national treasure, a distinctive Greek filmmaker who has made a significant contribution to changing contemporary Greek cinema”. Then he referred to the Tribute this year’s festival edition is holding on Mr. Giannaris’ work, through which, as he noted: “we are taking a cinematic journey from his first experimental works to his feature films which have been successful in Greece and abroad”. Mr. Eipides added: “Mr. Giannaris is a director who doesn’t hesitate to experiment with film media and at the same time disarmingly deal with difficult human and social issues. He is a director with a unique style, combining harshness with deep sensitivity, and never failing to surprise”.
Receiving the plaque from Mr. Eipides, Constantine Giannaris declared: “I thank you all very much. I would like to introduce the producer of the film, George Lykiardopoulos, as well as the leading actor, Anthony Karystinos, who I would particularly like to thank for our wonderful and invaluable collaboration”.
The screening of Constantine Giannaris’ latest film, Man at sea, whose editing he personally supervised, immediately followed.
