The Caravan Project camps at the port of Thessaloniki

After one and a half year of roaming cities and villages in Greece (including places like Mytilene, Rethymno, Heraklion and Alexandroupoli), the Caravan Project gradually approaches the completion of its second major trek and camps for a few weeks in the city of Thessaloniki. From March 9th to March 27th 2016, the two circular bioclimatic tents (yurts) will be situated at the port of Thessaloniki, Pier A, under the auspices of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, while the team of Caravan Project, with the exclusive donation of Stavros Niarchos Foundation, plans a series of various activities open to the public, organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the support of the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, the Cinema Museum of Thessaloniki, the Thessaloniki Center of Contemporary Art, the State Museum of Contemporary Art and the Stereosis Photography Center.

The Caravan Project began in 2011 as an initiative of a team of researchers, artists and filmmakers, with the aim of roaming Greece and bringing to light outstanding human stories that can inspire and move, highlighting thus a courageous aspect of the country. When this first trek with a self-propelled vehicle was completed, the team managed to have 12 documentaries and many short stories in the form of videos, photographs and narrations. As a follow-up, the 2nd trek began in the fall of 2014, this time with two self-propelled vehicles and two Mongolian tents (yurt). In its second phase, the Caravan Project focused its attention on the educational, therapeutic and unifying attributes that storytelling entails, as well as the conversation with local societies, through specific actions that are based on the love of storytelling.

Now, the Caravan Project arrives at Thessaloniki to offer the audience all the material of human stories that have been collected during its 1st and 2nd trek, through a multimedia exhibition that is held inside its tents (yurt) at the port of Thessaloniki. Documentary screenings, story narrations, diaries, photographs, testimonies and experiences of people who met the trek of the Caravan Project will be available in an exhibition open to the public from Monday to Sunday, 10:30 to 14:30 and 17:30 to 20:30.
