CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator

A top-notch international film industry meeting will be held at the 2nd Evia Film Project. The Festival’s Agora is hosting CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator, a specialized documentary development workshop addressed to women and femininities producers and directors.

It is of high importance that CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator, one of the most important documentary development programs in the world, taking place three times a year in different parts of the globe, has selected Greece, and Northern Evia in particular, to host their first annual meeting. Within the context of the 2nd Evia Film Project, CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator will host five masterclasses, open to the public.

It is worth mentioning that many of the projects that had received support from the program have been screened at major international festivals, earning prestigious awards and distinctions. Among the projects developed as part of the program stand out the following documentaries: Colonized by Lin Alluna, which had its premiere at the 2023 Sundance Festival, also taking part in the CPH:DOX and Hot Docs Festival, The Eclipse by Nataša Urban, recipient of the Lin DOX: Award and nominated at the European Film Awards, and Rain Will Never Stop by Alina Gorlova, winner of 2020 IDFA Award for Best First Appearance.

Participants from all over the world will attend Evia Film Project to showcase their projects to acclaimed professionals and receive guidance from documentary experts with regard to their projects’ development.

Masterclasses open to the public

Within the framework of the program a series of masterclasses will be held at the cultural center “Melina Mercouri” in Edipsos. Admission will be free for the audience, on a first-come-first-served basis. All masterclasses will be held in English, with no translation into Greek. 

 

CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator 2023-24 - Masterclasses Schedule

 

CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator is an annual educational program, accepting up to 10 female directors and producers per year, which offers support to documentary projects of strong international appeal at various stages of the production process. The program serves as a stepping stone for international collaborations, providing the chance to female professionals to make use of the possibilities offered, having set as its main goal the empowerment of women amidst the film industry. CIRCLE promotes the development of films, while focusing on the exchange and building of knowledge and other professional skills, by bringing its participants into contact with the full spectrum of the film industry and providing them with direct access to world-class mentors.

The Festival brings forth Northern Evia as the ideal shooting location for international film productions

Evia Film Projects turns the spotlight on the wonderful locations of Northern Evia, introducing them to the professionals of the film industry who select the shooting locations for major production from all around the globe. The Festival is hosting an exciting FAM Trip (familiarization trip) for location managers and producers from Greece and abroad, giving them the chance to discover the unseen beauties of Northern Evia, which could serve as the scenery in future films.

The Festival’s three-day action could be seen as a follow-up to the immense success of the film Triangle of Sadness by Ruben Östlund, nominated for three Academy Awards and recipient of the Cannes’ Palme d’Or, that was partly shot at the idyllic Chiliadou beach, which snatched the Best European Film Location Award.

The three-day action will call it wrap with masterclass addressed to location managers, delivered by Danae Spathara, line producer at Heretic, the co-production company of the film Triangle of Sadness Menelaos Mytilineos, location manager of the film. The masterclass titled “Shooting in Evia Island - Case study: Triangle of Sadness” will be held on Saturday June 24th, at 11am, in the cultural center “Melina Mercouri”, in Edipsos. Danae Spathara will take us along the journey of scouting and selecting the film’s locations. As we dive into the production process and the challenges faced amidst the difficult period of the pandemic and the imposed restrictions, the speaker will share practical information and inside stories from her personal experience in the field. The masterclass will be held in English, with no translation into Greek.

The FAM Trip and the Location Manager Masterclass “Shooting in Evia Ιsland - Case Study: Triangle of Sadness” are carried out with the support of the Hellenic Film Commission.
