The monograph is about one of the most exceptional iconoclasts of the Japanese (and not only) cinema and opens with a text written by the director himself for the 100 years of cinema (translated for the first time in a western language). Following is an exceptionally interesting section with writings and interviews of a filmmaker who paved new paths with his aesthetic audacity and his bold topics. From the general researches, we highlight the exceptional text by Giannis Bakogiannopoulos. His 25 films are reviewed in selected texts by eminent critics (Alain Philippon, Tadao Satō, Pascal Bonitzer, Hubert Niogret, Max Tessier, Donald Richie etc.). A book-point of reference, edited by Michel Demopoulos and Nikos Savvatis.
