The central axes of the 64th Thessaloniki Film Festival program are reflected in the pages of the Non-Catalog edition, drawing surprising and adventurous connections and associations, and highlighting eclectic affinities between completely unique cases in world cinema. Two texts by the program advisors of “Reflections of Topos” and filmmakers Köken Ergun and Neritan Zinxhiria demonstrate the challenges of making and presenting films on this side of the Mediterranean. Two texts by journalist Manolis Kranakis and writer Yiannis Palavos shed light on the obsessions, human geography, and symbols that made Takis Kanellopoulos one of the most iconic figures of Greek cinema. Lastly, two texts by film critic Nektarios Sakkas and the Associate Professor of NKUA Panayis Panagiotopoulos read the filmography of Nikos Perakis in a new light and identify the traits that define his gifted and singular directorial gaze onto contemporary Greek society.
