With this publication, Thessaloniki Documentary Festival honors a great supporter and friend. Dimitris Eipides writes in his emotional note: “I met Peter Wintonick 30 years ago in Montreal. He was one of these rare people who make a completely authentic first impression. We became friends and our precious friendship lasted until his early death, recently… He experienced this organization from his birth and he supported it, transferring its warmest image around the world… The tribute is honoring his memory. The book opens with a text by the editor, Dimitris Kerkinos, on the great cinematic heritage of the Canadian filmmaker, on his moral perspective on reality and generosity, with which he was sharing his knowledge, encouraging, inspiring, and promoting new directors. Following is an in-depth text by Wintonick with the title “My personal Manifesto”, two texts regarding the primary role of education and the revolution of video camera, and an interesting interview. Following are four texts on his work by Marc Glassman, Mark Achbar, Yung Chang, Heather Croall and his daughter, Mira. The publication closes with four of his greatest films, critically reviewed, as well as a short biographical note.
